We now stock over 30 different types of oil for Land Rover and Range Rover transmission components. It is now very important that the correct oil is used, especially on the later models. We mainly stock the oils from the companies JLR recommend but we do stock some cheaper alternatives but only when we are sure the oil specification is correct for the applications.
We are seeing an increase in transmission component failure, especially with later Land Rover and Range Rover models. We think this is due to the longer service intervals for transmission component oil changes coupled with the increased engine power of some models. On our own cars we are now carrying out more frequent oil changes to combat this problem.
Automatic Gearbox Oil Flush
When we change the oil in an automatic gearbox on the later models of Land Rover and Range Rover by draining the sump, we only remove about 50% of the old contaminated oil so the new oil is instantly degraded by the old oil that is left in the gearbox. However, when we use the Wynn’s TranServe we will change over 90% of the oil and by adding Wynn’s Transmission flush at the same time we will clean the oil system and the torque converter. This is not a guaranteed fix for a badly neglected gearbox but we can add other additives to help with any problems if necessary.
We use this system most on the 6-speed ZF auto box fitted to the Discovery 3 and L322 Range Rover. For the 8 speed ZF auto fitted to the Discovery 4 and later Range Rovers is also good to flush but we may have to also change the oil screen as well. Other models gearboxes can be Flushed. Please ask for details.
